This tutorial will show you how to move spam messages into a "Junk Mail" folder automatically as they are received. By using Outlook Express or Outlook and your email filtration software, the annoyance of spamming can be virtually eliminated. If you don't know if you have a spam filer in place, give us a call! Most spam filters use a set of guidelines to mark the messages it believes are spam before they are downloaded to your client software. This way, messages show up in your inbox with a designator such as "*****SPAM*****" in the subject line. Use the following set of steps to move these messages into a "Junk Mail" folder:
Step 1: Create the folder in Outlook Express by right-clicking "Local Folders" on the left side of your screen, and clicking "New Folder" from the drop-down menu that appears. Type "Junk Mail" as the folder name, and click 'Okay'.
Step 2: Set up the mail rule by clicking the Tools menu at the top of Outlook Express, and selecting "Message Rules" and then "Mail".
Step 3: In the box that appears, select "Where the subject line contains specific words" from the #1 box, then "Move to the specified folder" from the #2 box.
Step 4: Click the "contains specified words" link in box #3. In the box that appears, type your spam designator in the top text box, and click "Add" then "OK."
Step 5: Click the word "specified" from box #3, and select the Junk Mail folder from the box that appears, and click "OK."
Step 6: Finally, name your Spam rule in box #3, and click "OK" to save the rule, and then "OK" again to exit the rules window. Your spam will now be automatically moved to the Junk Mail Folder!
